The Uttarakhand CM was addressing a workshop organised by the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights when he made the controversial remark that women who wear ripped jeans set a 'bad example' for society.
Talking about the lack of values in youngsters, and how they follow strange fashion trends, he shared an incident.
He met a woman on a flight who runs an NGO. She was travelling with her two children. He said the lady was wearing boots, jeans ripped at the knees, and several bracelets.
“She runs an NGO, moves about in society, has children, wears ripped jeans... what values will she impart?” he questioned.

Actor Amitabh Bachchan's granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda too took to Instagram to slam the CM. She wrote, “Change your mentality before changing our clothes :) because the only thing shocking here is the message comments like this send to the society.”
Later she deleted the post.
She also shared a throwback picture of herself donning a pair of distressed denim. “I'll wear my ripped jeans. Thank you. And I'll wear them proudly :),” she wrote.
